LEARNING OBJECTIVES

1. Discuss the unique medical challenges that create inequitable healthcare for pregnant patients.

2. Discuss the factors that lead to increased mortality in pregnant individuals.

3. Review the impact that healthcare disparity plays in management of critically ill pregnant patients

4. Discuss unique clinical presentations and physiological changes in pregnancy that require tailored approaches to the management of critically ill obstetric patients.

5. Apply evidence-informed strategies for managing obstetric emergencies, such as respiratory failure, septic shock, hemorrhage, and neurologic crises.

6. Integrate resuscitation modifications specific to obstetric patients to optimize outcomes.

7. Identify how recent legislative changes have impacted maternal healthcare.

8. Evaluate the ethical challenges, including moral injury—that influence clinical decision-making in the management of obstetric patients.
